“Their song ‘Uncle Bob’ had me moving my entire body and shaking with the best kind of laughter.” – A fan
The Making of Authentic Earth
Authentic Earth is a prime example of the creativity generated when Niki and Bob combine musical talents. COVID had just cut down their commutes and obliterated any distractions (like eating out…shopping…most fun in general), which left the duo with time to spare.
Niki, uncomfortable at the atomic level with idleness, wasn’t going to let the time go to waste. She enrolled them both in Scale, an intensive mentorship program helps independent artists create an album from start to finish in just 12 weeks.
Those 12 weeks careened by quicker than a meteor shower. First, Bob and Niki tore the guts out of a pet-damaged but sun-filled room in their Shushan home and repurposed it into a fully outfitted studio.
Then came the writing, recording, and tweaking. Unconventionally, they started with guitar and vocal sections that had been old favorite creations between them, and built the rhythm sections up around this core. All instruments on the album are played by either Bob or Niki (except the cello - thanks, Will Hayes! )
Given the wild and inspiring setting of its creation, it is perhaps no surprise that Authentic Earth’s sound calls to mind a healing walk in the woods. Like the soil and leaves on a well-worn trail, each element of the album compliments the whole, and rewards the listener with a deep-thinking sort of catharsis.
